Winter is a difficult season for our skin . Between the holidays and their excesses and the climatic conditions, it is difficult to have a radiant and sufficiently hydrated complexion . In cold weather , the skin plays an essential role as a barrier and thermoregulator. But, it also suffers attacks that induce dryness , sensitivity , and redness .

What our skin experiences in winter

From a physical, chemical and biological point of view, our skin constitutes a real barrier against external aggressions . When temperatures drop: our epidermis is exposed to temperatures colder than that of our body, constantly maintained at 37.5°C. Consequence, when it is too cold to maintain body temperature. The body reduces the temperature of the peripheral regions and this is why we feel the cold first through the extremities ( skin , hands , feet ). The surface of the skin becomes cooler and therefore more fragile.

Microcirculation slows down because when low temperatures are perceived: the blood flow reaching the skin is reduced. The skin, which is less well irrigated, then becomes dehydrated and damaged. On the other hand, the protective hydrolipidic film is altered by sudden changes in temperature and drier or more humid air in winter. The skin is therefore more sensitive to dehydration and accelerated aging.

Thus, our skin becomes uncomfortable , tight and loses its elasticity. It requires cocooning , nourishing and soothing care such as the EFFECT lift . We then offer you some advice to protect your skin against the climatic changes of winter .

How to take good care of your face during the winter season

Switching from hot to cold and vice versa intensifies the dilation of the small vessels of the face , characterized by the appearance of redness . We therefore trigger the emergency plan and adopt products specifically adapted to the rigors of winter.

Adapt your skin cleansing to the cold:

In winter , removing makeup is just as essential as during the rest of the year. However, prefer a creamy milk or a water - oil (bisphasic) , richer in lipids, to your micellar water or cleansing foam in order to limit the aggressions on your skin.

Don't forget the lotion which, in addition to perfecting the cleaning , will penetrate more easily and bring hydration to the upper layers of the epidermis thanks to its aqueous texture.

Continue with the scrubs and masks

To boost blood microcirculation and ensure the oxygenation of the vessels. Exfoliate the skin on your face to remove dead cells and help the development of new cells . This little cleansing also facilitates the absorption of moisturizing products such as hydrate EFFECT , but it must be done gently. Avoid aggressive soaping or too frequent peeling, a light massage is enough to remove dead cells.

Also opt for a regenerating mask once a week for an immediate boost of radiance on dull and blotchy skin.

Strengthen the hydrolipidic barrier with an oil-serum:

In cold weather , the skin rests to conserve body heat. Cell renewal slows down, which causes a dull complexion. To maintain hydration, the hydrolipidic barrier must be strengthened by nourishing the skin with products rich in lipids (fats).

Focus on enhanced hydration

To keep your skin supple in winter, opt for more nourishing treatments concentrated in moisturizing active ingredients to restore skin protection from the first cold weather , regardless of your skin type. The secret of makeup artists: apply your treatment with a damp sponge until your cheeks are soft.

Don't forget to pamper your body

Hidden under layers of clothing, our body suffers from the cold and friction and therefore also requires our attention. Thus, depending on the dryness of the skin, it is advisable to use a more or less rich milk or balm. If you like oil, you can also apply it under your moisturizer.

SOS Hands in distress!

Our hands are the first victims of the cold. Their skin, thin and fragile, contains few sebaceous glands at the origin of sebum , an essential protector with the hydrolipidic film. To avoid dehydration and dryness in cold weather , you must:

  • Dry your hands well after washing them.
  • Put on your gloves before going out to better protect them from the cold and wind.
  • Apply a moisturizer rich in vegetable oils and waxes at least twice a day.
